Xavier Bass : “Valdosta Man Kills Family Member in Texas”

VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — A man from Valdosta is facing murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing his own father in Fort Worth, Texas. According to reports from ABC affiliate WFAA, twenty-seven-year-old Xavier Bass is accused of the crime.

The incident took place on June 28, 2024, when Gene Bass, 54, was found dead in his front yard with gunshot wounds to his upper body. Despite efforts from medical personnel to save him, Gene was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fort Worth Police stated that the suspect, Xavier Bass, drove up to the residence and fired multiple shots at his father before fleeing the scene in a vehicle. The authorities were able to track him down the next day at a residence in Valdosta, Georgia, where he was arrested by the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office without incident.

WFAA obtained an affidavit that shed more light on the tragic event. According to witnesses, Xavier Bass arrived at the scene in a Ford Mustang and was seen playing with a small black handgun. Gene Bass approached his son and warned him about the dangers of playing with the weapon, but shortly after, Xavier started shooting.

Further investigations revealed that Xavier had told a friend in Georgia that he needed to drive to Texas, hinting at his sinister intentions. Gene Bass, the victim, was a respected Master Sergeant and JROTC instructor at North Crowley High School.

As the case unfolds, the community is left shocked and saddened by the senseless tragedy that has taken place. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the crime and seek justice for Gene Bass.
