BOLIVAR, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) – A family is in mourning after a devastating incident in which a 61-year-old woman, Theresa Rhodes, was attacked and killed by two dogs while taking a stroll in a Tennessee neighbourhood.

The victim’s sister, Shirley Callaway, expressed her grief and shared fond memories of Rhodes in a recent interview with WMC. She described Rhodes as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend who was known for her caring nature.

According to family members, Rhodes was walking down the street when she encountered the two aggressive dogs. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, she used an object to try and fend off the animals.

Despite her valiant efforts, Rhodes, who weighed less than 90 pounds, was overpowered by the dogs. Callaway recounted how her sister fought bravely until she could fight no more, leaving her with fatal injuries.

Authorities discovered Rhodes in a critical condition near Sycamore and Mitchell streets. Callaway revealed that police had to intervene by shooting one of the dogs to prevent further harm.

Rhodes was rushed to the hospital following the attack but tragically succumbed to her injuries. Callaway expressed her disbelief and sorrow, stating that her sister’s untimely death should never have occurred.

The dogs responsible for the attack have been captured, with one of them already euthanised. The other dog is currently in the custody of animal control, although its fate remains uncertain.
