A family in Bolivar, Tennessee is grieving the loss of a beloved member after a horrifying incident involving two dogs resulted in the death of a 61-year-old woman.
Theresa Rhodes, 61, was tragically attacked and killed by two dogs while she was out for a walk in her neighbourhood in Bolivar. The victim’s sister, Shirley Callaway, expressed her sorrow over the loss of her sister, stating that Rhodes will be deeply missed.
According to reports from local news outlet WMC, Callaway described Rhodes as a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She mentioned that Rhodes was familiar with the area where the incident occurred and often walked through it.
Family members revealed that Rhodes was walking down the street when she encountered the two aggressive dogs. In a desperate attempt to defend herself, Rhodes tried to fight off the animals with an object.

Callaway shared heartbreaking details about her sister’s valiant but ultimately unsuccessful struggle against the dogs. She described Rhodes as a petite woman who did not stand a chance against the vicious animals.
Law enforcement officers discovered Rhodes in a grievous state near Sycamore and Mitchell streets. Callaway recounted how the officers had to intervene and shoot one of the dogs in order to protect Rhodes and themselves from further harm.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Rhodes succumbed to her injuries. Callaway expressed her disbelief and sadness over the tragic turn of events, emphasising that such a horrific incident should never have occurred.
Police confirmed that both dogs involved in the attack were captured, with one of them euthanised. The other dog is currently under the care of animal control, although its fate remains uncertain.
