KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV/Gray News) – The tragic death of 29-year-old Taylor Thomas has left her family devastated and seeking justice. Thomas, a mother of six young children, was fatally shot near a Kansas City intersection just two days after celebrating her 29th birthday.
The family held a vigil for Thomas, where her stepmother, Deannia Ellis, expressed the pain of losing a beloved family member. “Some of her babies are 2, 3, and 4. They’ll never remember who their mother was,” said Ellis, highlighting the impact of Thomas’ untimely death on her young children.
Thomas was shot multiple times and succumbed to her injuries two days after the incident. Her biological mother, Lawonia Carlton, shared her grief, saying, “This has ripped a hole in our family. It’s ripped a hole in my heart.”
Described as a dependable and involved mother, Thomas was actively engaged in her children’s lives, serving as a homeroom parent and participating in the school’s Parent-Teacher Association. Now, her children must navigate life without their loving mother by their side.
The family is pleading for the public’s help in identifying the suspect responsible for Thomas’ death. They are urging anyone with information to come forward, not only for this case but for all unsolved cases of gun violence.
Mary Chavis, Taylor’s stepmother, emphasised the importance of speaking up against violence, saying, “If you see something, say something. Don’t be afraid.”
Seeking justice for Thomas and all victims of such crimes, Ellis stated, “No one has the right to take the life of another person. We want justice for her and anyone who ever goes through this.”
