OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) – A jury in Johnson County, Kansas, has delivered a verdict of guilty for first-degree murder in the case of a Kansas City, Missouri man involved in a fatal shooting at an Overland Park gas station.
The Johnson County District Attorney’s Office announced the jury’s decision on Friday, July 3, convicting 26-year-old Zarrell Semaj Finley of first-degree murder for his involvement in the tragic incident that took place at a gas station in 2022.

According to the Overland Park Police Department, on July 31, 2022, authorities responded to reports of gunshots at the BP gas station located at 8698 College Blvd. Upon arrival, they discovered Shaquille J. Jackson, the victim, suffering from serious injuries. Jackson was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Eye witnesses at the scene informed law enforcement that the suspect, later identified as Finley, had fled in a Toyota Highlander before the police arrived. Finley was subsequently apprehended, charged with first-degree murder, and also faced charges for being in possession of a firearm as a felon.
A date for the sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
