Accident – Death – Obituary News : A New Jersey State Police officer from Brick Township, Shane H. Dempsey, has been arrested on multiple charges after allegedly attempting to arrange a meeting with a teenage girl for sex. The disturbing incident unfolded on a popular social media app, where an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl was contacted by Dempsey.
The charges against Dempsey include second-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child by allowing the child to engage in the production of child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), second-degree attempted engaging in prostitution, second-degree attempted luring, second-degree attempted sexual assault, and third-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct.
The investigation into Dempsey’s actions was launched earlier this year by a detective from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, who was operating in an undercover capacity on the Whisper app. During their interactions, Dempsey allegedly solicited sexually explicit images and expressed a desire to pay money in exchange for a sexual act from the supposed teenage girl.
Dempsey was apprehended without incident in Ewing, Mercer County, and is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending further legal proceedings in Monmouth County Superior Court. The New Jersey State Police Office of Professional Standards, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Brick Township Police Department all collaborated in the investigation and arrest.
Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Competello from the MCPO High Tech Bureau is handling the prosecution of the case, while Dempsey is being represented by attorney Charles J. Uliano from West Long Branch.
