Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Etah (UP): Asphyxia due to compression has been identified as the leading cause of death among the victims of the tragic Hathras stampede, according to reports from the district hospital in Etah.

The hospital, faced with an unprecedented number of autopsies in response to the stampede, has been working tirelessly to process the bodies of the deceased. Out of the 27 bodies brought to Etah’s mortuary, post-mortems have been completed for 19, with preparations underway for the 20th body late into the night, as confirmed by Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ram Mohan Tiwari.

Most of the victims, predominantly women in the age group of 40-50, succumbed to asphyxia due to compression, as noted by Dr. Tiwari. The hospital staff have been working tirelessly, pushing beyond their regular hours to manage the increased workload, considering that the average daily autopsies usually range from four to five cases.

As for the patients currently under treatment, four individuals were admitted, with one already discharged after receiving initial care. Two others remain in stable condition, while a pregnant woman continues to receive ongoing treatment.

In response to the tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Minister Sandeep Singh has pledged to take strict actions against those responsible for the incident, stating, “Till now 121 people have died in the incident…The injured are being treated. Strict action will be taken against those found responsible for the incident. This is not a small incident.”

An FIR has been lodged against Devprakash Madhukar, known as ‘Mukhya Sewadar’, and other organisers of the ‘Satsang’ event where the stampede occurred. Additionally, Uttar Pradesh police have initiated a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district in pursuit of Narayan Saakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, the preacher of the ‘Satsang’ in Hathras. However, the preacher remains untraceable.

Plea in Supreme Court for Investigation by Expert Committee

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court, urging the appointment of a five-member expert committee under the supervision of a retired top Court judge to investigate the Hathras stampede incident. The plea also seeks recommendations for guidelines and safety measures to prevent similar incidents at large public gatherings.

The petition, submitted by advocate Vishal Tiwari, further calls for the State of Uttar Pradesh to provide a status report to the apex court on the Hathras stampede incident and take legal action against individuals, authorities, and officials for their negligent conduct.
