The family, who were in town for a baseball tournament in Cooperstown, tragically lost their lives when their small plane, a single-engine Piper PA-46, crashed shortly after takeoff from a regional airport in Oneonta.

The victims have been identified as Roger Beggs, 76; Laura Van Epps, 42; Ryan Van Epps, 42; James Van Epps, 12; and Harrison Van Epps, 10. Ryan Van Epps, the father of James and Harrison, was a former insurance analyst who managed Top Rail Fence, a fence design and installation company in north Georgia. Prior to this, he worked at Van Epps Insurance Advisory and Administrative Services in Roswell, a firm owned by his father.
The family was returning to Georgia after cheering on James’ baseball team at the tournament in Cooperstown. The tragic incident has left friends, family, and the community in shock and mourning the loss of these five lives.
