SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – A 45-year-old man, Michael Wright, has been taken into custody for allegedly starting a fire in Shasta County on June 22, according to CAL FIRE officials.

The incident occurred when CAL FIRE/Shasta County Fire Department responded to a vegetation fire along Coleman Fish Hatchery Road. Upon further investigation, authorities discovered fresh scrape marks in the vicinity of the fire, indicating potential foul play.

Following the trail of the scrape marks, officials were led to a residence where they found a truck with an attached trailer. The trailer exhibited significant damage, suggesting that it had been dragged along the paved roadway and was missing a tire.

Michael Wright was identified as the driver of the truck and trailer. He confessed to driving over four miles with a defective and damaged tire, leading to his arrest and subsequent transportation to the Shasta County Jail.

Wright faces the following charges:

  • Unlawfully causing a fire on a structure of forest land
  • Reckless driving
