According to a neighbour, the tragic incident took place last week when a stranger was witnessed climbing over a perimeter wall. Following a pursuit, the stranger discarded a bag containing a blood-stained knife. Subsequently, a child from a nearby village was reported missing, leading to the discovery of his lifeless body in a pit latrine.

Speaking on the matter, Ronald Ssenkima, a neighbour, recounted, “We attempted to apprehend the stranger, but he managed to evade capture. However, our suspicions were aroused upon finding a knife with fresh blood. It later came to our attention that a child had been murdered in one of the residences within our vicinity. We promptly alerted the authorities to assist in apprehending the suspected killer.”

Providing an update on the investigation, Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, disclosed that sniffer dogs played a crucial role in tracking down and arresting Dauda Jjumba. Nevertheless, Owoyesigyire noted that it has not been definitively established whether Jjumba is indeed the perpetrator of the heinous crime against young Matovu

“We have forwarded the evidence, including the bag, the knife, and a set of bed sheets, to our forensic team for DNA analysis. The results of the DNA tests will ascertain the culpability of the individual currently in police custody in relation to the murder,” ASP Owoyesigyire affirmed.
