CAMDENTON, Mo. (KY3/Gray News) – Authorities in Missouri are currently investigating a disturbing incident that took place at the Fish and Company Restaurant in Camdenton. A waitress, identified as Liahna Bertels, was assaulted by customers who refused to pay their bill, resulting in her being pulled into the Lake of the Ozarks.
According to Bertels, the altercation occurred when she attempted to collect payment from a group of customers who had become agitated due to a delay in their food order. Additionally, she refrained from serving a drink to a patron who lacked proper identification, further aggravating the situation.
Despite offering to pack their food for takeout, the group decided to leave the restaurant abruptly. Surveillance footage captured the customers strolling down the dock towards a boat, prompting Bertels to follow and remind them of their unpaid bill.
Unfortunately, the situation took a violent turn when the group forcibly pulled Bertels into the water, causing distress and emotional turmoil. Fish and Company General Manager Sean Dolven acknowledged the need for enhanced security measures in response to the incident.
Bertels managed to climb onto a nearby boat after enduring approximately 10 minutes in the water. The Camden County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the assault, with a focus on identifying the suspects captured in the surveillance footage.
The sheriff’s office categorised the incident as a misdemeanor assault case and suspects that the individuals involved may be from out of state. The unpaid bill amounted to approximately £150, further underscoring the severity of the situation.
