After bravely stepping in to prevent a potentially deadly shooting incident in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Katrina Addie now finds herself and her family facing eviction. The incident, which occurred at the Oak Tree Villages apartment complex, saw Addie intervene when a man pulled a gun on her godson, Tion, who was visiting from Georgia.

According to Addie, Tion had gone outside to take out the trash when he was confronted by the suspected shooter, Elijah Bilal Williamson, and a 15-year-old boy. The situation escalated quickly, with the men brandishing guns and Tion realizing the danger he was in. Addie, a correctional officer, saw the events unfolding and knew she had to act to protect her godson and the other children present.

She grabbed her own firearm and confronted the shooter, exchanging fire in an effort to get him to leave. Addie’s quick thinking and courage likely prevented injury or loss of life in the incident, which was captured on surveillance footage and reviewed by law enforcement.

Eviction Notice and Controversy

Despite her actions being deemed as self-defense by property managers and law enforcement, Addie received an eviction notice citing “illegal action on the property” and stating that she had to vacate the premises within thirty days. The notice also mentioned that Addie was behind on utilities, although she disputes this claim.

Addie had been raising concerns to the apartment complex management for seven months about the group of males who had been causing disturbances in the parking lot. Despite her efforts and the involvement of the Sheriff’s Department, little was done to address the issue.

Now, Addie and her family, including seven children, are left to find a new place to live within a month’s time. The community has rallied behind her, with some suggesting that she should be allowed to stay in the complex rent-free for her brave actions.

While facing uncertainty about their future, Addie remains hopeful, believing that everything happens for a reason and that the right doors will open for her and her family.

Legal Action Against the Suspect

The suspect, Elijah Bilal Williamson, has been charged with 18 counts of Attempted Malicious Wounding in connection with the shooting incident. Investigators found multiple shell casings and bullet fragments at the scene, highlighting the severity of the situation that Addie intervened in.
