Houston Pet Sitter Under Investigation After Three Dogs Die in Her Care

A pet sitter from the popular Rover app in Houston is currently under investigation by authorities after three dogs tragically died in her care, with four others being hospitalised due to heat stroke.

Jessica Hayward, a devastated pet owner, received a heartbreaking call from the pet sitter she had booked through the Rover app. She was informed that her beloved dog, Goose, had passed away while in the sitter’s care.

The Seerden family also received distressing news from the same pet sitter about their dog, Archie, who was rushed to the emergency room and is currently fighting for his life.

It was later revealed that the dogs had been placed inside the pet sitter’s shed, where the air conditioning had malfunctioned, leading to seven dogs suffering from heat stroke. Three dogs, including Goose, tragically did not survive.

Hayward expressed shock at the situation, mentioning that they had no knowledge of other dogs being in the care of the sitter. Despite the sitter having positive reviews and a high number of repeat clients, the families were unaware of the conditions their pets were in.

Archie’s family remains hopeful for his recovery, with owner Andrew Seerden urging pet owners to be cautious when using pet sitting services and to personally inspect the facilities before leaving their pets.

The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities, and no charges have been filed at this time. Rover, the app through which the sitter was booked, has deactivated her account and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.

A spokesperson for Rover expressed their condolences to the families affected by the tragedy and assured that the company is committed to ensuring the well-being of all pets under their care.
