A pet sitter from the Rover app in Houston is currently under investigation after three dogs tragically died in her care, with four others being hospitalised due to heat stroke. The devastating incident has left pet owners in shock and seeking answers.
One of the affected pet owners, Jessica Hayward, is grieving the loss of her beloved dog, Goose. Describing Goose as “one of a kind,” Hayward received a heartbreaking call from the pet sitter she had booked through the Rover app. The sitter informed her that Goose had passed away in his crate, covered and without explanation.
Similarly, the Seerden family woke up to distressing news about their dog, Archie, who was also in the care of the same pet sitter. Archie was rushed to the emergency room after suffering from heat stroke, and his condition remains critical. The pet sitter explained that the air conditioning had failed, leading to the dogs being placed in a shed where the tragic incident occurred.
In total, seven dogs were affected by the heat stroke incident, with three of them unfortunately losing their lives, including Goose. Both families were unaware that their pets were among several others under the sitter’s care, highlighting the need for caution when choosing pet sitting services.

Andrew Seerden, Archie’s owner, is urging pet owners to be vigilant and personally inspect the facilities where their pets will be staying. He emphasised the importance of not solely relying on reviews and ensuring that the environment is safe and suitable for their beloved animals.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the dogs’ deaths, with no charges filed as of yet. Rover, the app through which the pet sitter was booked, has deactivated her account and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.
A spokesperson for Rover expressed the company’s deep concern over the incident, extending condolences to the families of the deceased pets and wishing a speedy recovery to those undergoing veterinary care. The spokesperson reiterated Rover’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all pets under their care.
