RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) – Kentucky’s Budget Reserve Trust Fund has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from one of the worst to one of the best in the nation for its size. This positive change can be attributed to the passing of House Bill 1 during the 2024 legislative session. By diligently setting aside recurring expenses in the operational budget and diligently saving money in the reserve account, the state has managed to accumulate substantial funds. What makes this development truly historic is the fact that these funds are now being utilised for strategic investments in infrastructure, quality of life, and workforce development across the Commonwealth.
The strategic process involved in this transformation includes consultations with a wide array of stakeholders, including state representatives, senators, administrative officials, agency officials, third parties, and non-profit organisations. These discussions play a crucial role in identifying and addressing gaps, thereby ensuring that the budget is effective and efficient. This concerted effort is also aimed at continuing to build the reserve account for future investments.
The combined efforts of local and state leaders have laid the groundwork for significant community improvements and future growth in Logan County, with an impressive investment totalling $17.8 million.
“We want to do the most we can for Logan County. The money was set aside through the state. Representative Jason Petrie has earmarked the money to come to Logan County,” said Phil Baker, Logan County Judge Executive.
Recently, Representative Jason Petrie and Senator Mike Wilson presented four checks at the Logan County Courthouse, marking a pivotal moment in the region’s development.
“It’s just a great opportunity for us to provide for our communities and help move our communities forward as well as the state forward,” added Mike Wilson, State Senator for District 32.
Part of the investment includes allocating $7.8 million to the City of Lewisburg and $5 million to the City of Adairville for the enhancement of their wastewater treatment plants.
“We were at the tune of $5,000,000 needing help on our wastewater plant and didn’t know where we were going to get it. I give all the credit to the Lord and to Representative Petrie. He knew what we needed, and it came through,” said Donna Blake, Adairville Mayor.
Furthermore, $3 million was granted to the Logan County Fiscal Court to support parks and recreation initiatives across the county.
“We’re just so excited for that. We couldn’t be more thankful for the Kentucky Legislature and all that they have done to make this funding possible,” said Thomas Bouldin, 6th District Magistrate of Logan County.
Additionally, Logan County Schools were presented with $2 million to bolster programs at the Career and Technical Center, marking a significant investment in the future workforce.
These investments signify the commencement of crucial community improvements and future growth in Logan County, setting the stage for a brighter future for its residents.
