AUSTIN, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded in South Austin as a man was arrested for fatally stabbing his father, the Austin Police Department confirmed.
According to authorities, on Monday, July 1, at approximately 5:39 p.m., law enforcement officers were alerted to a stabbing incident at 6715 Windrift Way.
Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders discovered the victim, identified as James Lerond, lying in the street and immediately initiated life-saving procedures. Unfortunately, James Lerond succumbed to his injuries.
Subsequent investigations revealed footprints leading from the crime scene to the suspect’s residence. Inside the home, 22-year-old Hayden Lerond was found on the floor with blood on his knees.

Hayden Lerond sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Following a thorough inquiry, it was determined that Hayden Lerond had committed the heinous act of stabbing his father, James Lerond, resulting in his tragic demise.
Hayden Lerond was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Travis County Jail on charges of first-degree murder.

A reward of up to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest. This case is currently under investigation as Austin’s 30th homicide of 2024.
