NEW YORK (AP) — A Delta Airlines flight travelling from Detroit to Amsterdam was forced to make an unscheduled landing at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport on Wednesday after passengers were served food that had gone bad, according to airline officials.

The overnight flight departed from Detroit at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday and touched down in New York at 4 a.m. following reports that a portion of the Main Cabin meal service had been compromised, a spokesperson for Delta confirmed.

Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel were on standby to assist 12 passengers who had fallen ill after consuming the spoiled food, as reported by the Fire Department of New York.

The exact number of passengers who ingested the tainted meals remains unclear at this time.
