On Monday, a heartbreaking discovery was made in the Walmart parking lot in Pine Bluff, as a 65-year-old man was found deceased in his 18-wheeler, along with his two beloved dogs. The Pine Bluff Police Department revealed that the man, identified as David Deerman, likely passed away due to natural causes.
Police Respond to Disturbing Scene
The authorities were alerted to the situation on Olive Street at 5 p.m. following a wellness check request. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a concerned individual named Willie Crews, who disclosed that a white tractor trailer rig had been stationed in the parking lot since December 2023. Crews mentioned that Deerman had been residing in the truck with his loyal canine companions.
Crews, who regularly checked in on Deerman and brought him meals, became alarmed when his attempts to contact Deerman went unanswered on a recent visit. Noticing that the truck was not operational and the cab area was potentially overheated, Crews raised the alarm for assistance.
Heartbreaking Scene Unfolds
With visibility obstructed by the truck’s windows, a police officer scaled the cab to peer inside. Tragically, the officer observed Deerman’s lifeless body alongside his deceased dogs through the windshield. To facilitate entry, the Fire Department was summoned to the scene, ultimately confirming Deerman’s passing.

Following the initial examination, the vehicle was towed to a designated location for further investigation. Crime scene technicians, animal control personnel, and the Jefferson County coroner’s office were all summoned to the scene to assist with the inquiry.

Lieutenant David DeFoor stated that no evidence of foul play was found at the scene, leading authorities to believe that Deerman succumbed to natural causes.
