Richmond RCMP are on the hunt for two arson suspects involved in a fiery incident at a business in the 2600-block of Simpson Road back in April. The suspects, who were caught on video surveillance, attempted to set fire to the establishment but ended up causing more trouble for themselves.

Details of the Incident

On the night of April 24, an alarm alerted authorities to the scene where they discovered a broken window and a small fire in front of it. The evidence pointed towards arson as the cause of the fire, prompting an investigation by the Richmond RCMP.

Video footage revealed two masked individuals approaching the business on foot. They proceeded to smash a window and ignite an object. However, things took a turn for the worse when one of the suspects accidentally set his own pants on fire during the process. Despite their efforts, the pants continued to burn, causing the suspect’s mask to come off in the chaos.

Description of the Suspects

The main suspect, described as a Caucasian male aged 40 to 50, with a medium build and slicked back dirty blonde hair, was wearing a dark, long-sleeved crew neck shirt and ‘charred’ beige or tan pants. Richmond RCMP media relations officer, Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, believes that due to the nature of the fire, the suspect likely sustained injuries to his lower body.

The second suspect is said to have a tanned or medium complexion, aged in his late 20s to 30s, with an athletic build. He was spotted wearing a dark-coloured balaclava, dark-coloured joggers with blue stripes, dark-coloured gloves, a hoodie, and Nike Jordan high tops.

Search for the Culprits

Both suspects fled the scene on foot, with one heading north on Simpson Road and the other going east along the railroad tracks. Richmond RCMP are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation.

As the search for the arson suspects continues, the Richmond RCMP remains committed to bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
