In a recent announcement, District Attorney W. Crosby Parker revealed that Charles Darkeith Brown, a 34-year-old resident of Gulfport, has pleaded guilty to the armed robbery of a Hardees restaurant located on Highway 49 in Gulfport.

The incident took place on January 2, 2023, as employees at the Hardees were preparing to close for the day.

According to reports, employees inside the Hardees heard a gunshot and the sound of glass breaking. Surveillance footage showed Brown entering the establishment through the shattered front door, leaping over the counter.

Brandishing a firearm, Brown demanded money from the safe while pointing the gun at one of the workers. Startled by another employee exiting a bathroom, Brown discharged a round into the floor, causing a piece of the bullet to strike the worker in the leg.

After the employees surrendered the money, Brown fled the scene. Three days later, the Mississippi Department of Corrections identified Brown as a parolee with previous convictions for armed robbery and grand larceny.

Law enforcement apprehended Brown at his residence, recovering the weapon used in the robbery. During interrogation, Brown confessed to the crime.

In a court ruling, Judge Randi Mueller sentenced Brown to 25 years in prison as a habitual offender. He will serve his sentence day-for-day without the possibility of early release.

District Attorney Parker expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision, stating, “We are pleased with the significant day-for-day sentence handed down by the Court in this case, a sentence which serves to provide the victims with justice, the defendant with accountability for his crime, and our citizens with the assurance that such crimes will be vigorously prosecuted.”

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Ian Baker.
