A bicyclist in Las Vegas is currently fighting for his life after a harrowing incident involving two different vehicles in the southeast valley on Tuesday night.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported that the collision took place at 11:47 p.m. on South Nellis Boulevard and Mt. Rushmore Parkway.
Initial findings from the investigation indicated that a 1997 Dodge Dakota was travelling north on Nellis, while a 2010 Chrysler 300C was heading south. The bicyclist, who was also travelling north against traffic, crossed the raised center median and entered the northbound lanes.
The Dodge collided with the rear of the bicycle, causing the rider to be thrown into the southbound lanes where he was subsequently struck by the Chrysler.

Emergency medical teams swiftly transported the injured bicyclist to the Trauma Unit at Sunrise Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police arrested the driver of the Dodge, identified as 44-year-old Anthony Wayne Tate, on charges related to driving under the influence. Tate was booked at the Clark County Detention Center. The driver of the Chrysler cooperated with authorities and did not display any signs of impairment.
Authorities stated, “The collision is currently under investigation by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Collision Investigation Section.”
Following a four-hour closure, all roads in the vicinity of the accident have since been reopened.
Tate is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
