A man from Dorchester, Boston, was arraigned at Dorchester BMC on Monday for allegedly taking an “upskirt” photo of an 11-year-old girl as she walked to a bus stop last month. AGUSTIN JARAMILLO, 28, faced one count of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14, according to Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden.

Judge Thomas Kaplanes ordered Jaramillo to be held on $500 bail, with a scheduled pre-trial hearing set for September 24. The incident took place on June 6 when Boston police received a call from the Conservatory Lab Charter School in Dorchester.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the young victim, who reported that a man matching Jaramillo’s description had approached her while she was on her way to the bus stop that morning. Jaramillo reportedly engaged the girl by handing her a cord and asking for help tying a knot. He then proceeded to take an inappropriate photo up her skirt using his cellphone, followed by rubbing his hand against her leg.

The victim described Jaramillo as a man in his 30s with a mustache, carrying a white plastic shopping bag, and wearing a black T-shirt and white shorts. Surveillance footage from the area captured the suspect interacting with the victim on Wainwright Street.

After receiving a tip via Facebook Messenger on June 27, investigators were able to identify Jaramillo from the still photos circulated by the police. An arrest warrant was issued on June 29, leading to his apprehension.

District Attorney Hayden commended the young girl for promptly reporting the incident to school officials, which ultimately led to Jaramillo’s identification and arrest. He stressed the importance of community collaboration in enhancing overall safety and security.

All individuals facing charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
