Hamilton Police have identified the victim of a tragic shooting incident that occurred over the long weekend in Millgrove. The victim has been named as 45-year old Tobenna Obiaga, hailing from Halton Region. This incident marks the fifth homicide in Hamilton this year.
The incident took place on Highway 6 near 6th Concession E in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to reports, a fight erupted at a large house party hosted at a short-term rental property. The altercation spilled out onto the highway, resulting in shots being fired at a parked car on the shoulder and another vehicle that had stopped at a nearby gas station.
Tragically, Tobenna Obiaga was found in the parked vehicle with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. Two individuals in the vehicle at the gas station sustained non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and have since been discharged from the hospital. A fourth person suffered minor injuries at the house, unrelated to firearms, and has also been released from medical care.
Authorities have been informed by witnesses that a dark grey sedan fled the scene following the shooting. Despite this information, there are no further details regarding the suspects involved. The property where the incident occurred is currently being safeguarded by police, with several vehicles left at the scene pending the issuance of search warrants.
