Shane H. Dempsey : NJ State Trooper Allegedly Sought Sex From Teen Girl

A New Jersey State Trooper hailing from Brick Township has been taken into custody after allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activities with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing disturbing details of the case.

Shane H. Dempsey, 31, faces charges of second-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child by allowing the child to participate in the creation of child sexual abuse materials. Additionally, he has been charged with second-degree attempted engaging in prostitution, second-degree attempted luring, second-degree attempted sexual assault, and third-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child through sexual conduct.

The investigation was initiated earlier this year when an undercover detective from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office was monitoring activities on the social media app Whisper. It was during this monitoring that Dempsey, posing as another user, attempted to solicit explicit images and offered money in exchange for sexual acts from someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl.

Dempsey was apprehended without resistance in Ewing and is currently being held at the Monmouth County jail in Freehold Township awaiting further legal proceedings. The New Jersey State Police Office of Professional Standards, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and Brick Township Police Department all assisted in the investigation.
