In a heartbreaking incident, a fire in Bayonne has resulted in the untimely death of a six-year-old girl, sparking an investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Bayonne Fire Department. The devastating blaze took place on the evening of Sunday, June 30, 2024, at a property situated at 438 Avenue C in Bayonne.
Upon receiving the emergency call, the Bayonne Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene just after 11:40 p.m. to find the building engulfed in intense flames and thick smoke. Amidst the chaos of the firefighting operation, responders discovered an unconscious young child, later identified as Saniya Felton from Bayonne, on the second floor of the two-storey structure.
Saniya was immediately rushed to Bayonne Medical Center, where tragically she was pronounced deceased shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, July 1. At present, the cause of the fire remains under thorough investigation, and authorities have not yet suggested any suspicion of foul play in connection with the incident.
