Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident has struck a family-of-five from Georgia who lost their lives in a devastating plane crash in upstate New York. The family, consisting of parents Laura and Ryan VanEpps, their two sons, James and Harrison, and their grandfather, Roger Beggs, were on their way back home after a baseball tournament when the single-engine Piper PA-46 aircraft piloted by Beggs came down in a rural, wooded area near Sidney.

The family had traveled to the region to support their eldest son, James, who hit a home run during the baseball tournament in Cooperstown. As they were heading back to Alpharetta, Georgia, tragedy struck when the plane crashed shortly after taking off from Alfred S. Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta.

The wreckage of the plane and the remains of the five victims were discovered in the town of Masonville after an extensive search conducted by drones, all-terrain vehicles, and helicopters. The New York State Police identified the victims as Laura VanEpps, 43; Ryan VanEpps, 42; James VanEpps, 12; Harrison VanEpps, 10; and Roger Beggs, 76.

The local baseball community paid tribute to James at the Oneonta baseball ground where he had played, laying out their gloves in his initials, J. R. The family is remembered for their kindness, laughter, and love, with their legacy forever etched in the hearts of those who knew them.

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and urged the community to join him in praying for them during this difficult time. Neighbors and friends of the family described them as kind and sweet individuals, devastated by the tragic loss.
