COVINGTON COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A devastating two-vehicle collision near Collins on Tuesday afternoon has left one young person dead and another seriously injured. The incident occurred off Mississippi Highway 37, sending shockwaves through the community.
Covington County Coroner Chris DaQuila received a distressing call at approximately 3:09 p.m. reporting the crash. The collision involved a white 2008 Ford Ranger, driven by 18-year-old Kymonte Autry from Collins, and an 18-wheeler truck.
Tragically, the impact of the collision caused the 18-wheeler to burst into flames, adding further chaos and danger to the scene. The driver of the large vehicle sustained severe injuries and was swiftly airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop J Public Affairs Officer Taylor Shows confirmed that the crash is currently under investigation by MHP, as authorities work tirelessly to determine the cause of the tragic incident. The community is reeling from the loss of life and the serious injuries sustained.
