In a devastating incident that has shaken South Korea, nine individuals have tragically lost their lives, with four others sustaining injuries after a car ploughed into a crowd of pedestrians in downtown Seoul. The driver, a 68-year-old man whose identity has not been disclosed, was operating the vehicle that collided with pedestrians waiting at a traffic light. According to reports from the Yonhap News Agency, the driver has been apprehended and is currently under investigation for involuntary manslaughter.
Of the nine victims, six tragically lost their lives at the scene, while three others, who were rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest, were later pronounced dead. Photos from the crash site depict a severely damaged black sedan being towed away, with the guardrails along the road flattened as a grim reminder of the tragedy that unfolded.
Seoul police revealed that the car was moving in the wrong direction and had already collided with two other vehicles before striking the pedestrians.
