The ordeal began on Tuesday, June 18, when a male subject barricaded himself inside McGrath’s home on the 100 block of Cedar Way in Salisbury. The Salisbury Police Department, Wicomico County Sheriff’s office, and Maryland State Police responded to a reported domestic assault, where the suspect allegedly stabbed an individual.

After hours of negotiation, the standoff finally ended at 1 p.m. The suspect, identified as Matthew William Gruber, was taken to TidalHealth for self-inflicted injuries.

McGrath, who described the suspect as her fiancée, recounted the traumatic events that unfolded that day. She revealed that Gruber had attacked her, causing physical harm and damaging her vehicle. Fortunately, McGrath’s children, aged 5 and 8, were not present during the incident.

In the aftermath, McGrath found herself struggling to cope with the trauma and the potential loss of her home and children. Her car, which was essential for her job as a teacher’s aide at a daycare, was destroyed during the altercation. Without transportation, McGrath faces the risk of losing her job and subsequently her house and custody of her children.

Desperate for support, McGrath has set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of raising $15,000 to help her on the road to recovery and stability. Despite her efforts to promote the fundraiser, McGrath expressed frustration at the lack of response from the community, with only $50 raised so far.

Determined not to let the situation defeat her, McGrath emphasised the importance of maintaining her independence and fighting to keep her life together. She remains hopeful that with the help of friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers, she can overcome this challenging period in her life.
