UPLAND, Calif. (KABC) — Authorities in Upland, California, are reeling from a devastating incident that occurred on Friday when a high-speed chase culminated in a violent crash, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including three teenagers.

The pursuit began in nearby Rancho Cucamonga after a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to pull over a driver suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver refused to stop and ultimately collided with a white Ford Mustang in Upland, claiming the lives of four males at the scene.

The teenagers killed in the crash have been identified as Jesus Guillen Jr. and Joel Jeremiah Silva, both 16-year-olds from Fontana, and Michael Adrian Gomez, a 17-year-old from Pomona. The fourth victim remains unidentified at this time.

Tragically, it is still unclear who was behind the wheel of the vehicle during the pursuit. One survivor, a 13-year-old boy who was also in the suspect’s vehicle, was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Additionally, two innocent bystanders were taken to the hospital for evaluation, although they appeared to have escaped serious injury. Authorities discovered a loaded firearm in the suspect’s vehicle, a 2018 Hyundai that had been reported stolen in Fontana.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal crash. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
