CEBU CITY, United Kingdom —
Authorities have recently confirmed the identity of the deceased man discovered near the Transcentral Highway in Sitio Guya, Barangay Prenza, Balamban town, southern Cebu, on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

The lifeless individual has been identified as 35-year-old Franklyn Edaño, a fisherman and former participant in a drug rehabilitation program.

Police Lt. Colonel Julius Garcia, Chief of Balamban Police Station, shared that Edaño was recognized by his relatives who suspected that the body belonged to him after learning about the demise of his friend, Alexander Langi.

Langi’s body was also discovered tied up and lifeless in a grassy area in Campo 5, Barangay Manipis, Talisay City, on the same day.

Relatives of Edaño revealed that both men, who were close friends, went missing simultaneously on Friday, June 28.

It was on Tuesday morning, July 2, that the family contacted the authorities to verify the identity of the body found in Balamban.

Edaño was positively identified based on his clothing and a silver ring that he was known to wear before his disappearance.

When Edaño was found on Sunday at around 10 a.m., he was bound at the wrists and feet with rope, and his head was wrapped in packaging tape.

In contrast, Langi’s body was located around 2 p.m., and his mother positively identified him on Monday, July 1.

According to a Municipal Health Officer in Balamban, no signs of stabbing, gunshot wounds, or torture were found on Edaño’s body.

“The assumption of our Municipal Officer is that the cause of death was asphyxia. This was due to the victim being unable to breathe properly because his entire face was wrapped in packing tape,” stated Garcia.

Authorities are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy conducted on Langi’s remains.

Police Major Windell Abellana, public information officer of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO), mentioned that Police Colonel Percival R. Zorrilla has ordered a thorough investigation into the deaths of the two individuals.

Furthermore, he has instructed the police chiefs of Talisay and Balamban to collaborate with law enforcement agencies in neighbouring areas, as it was discovered that both victims were residents of Cebu City.
