A man has been taken into custody following the discovery of a 61-year-old man’s body by construction workers in a ditch in Needville, Fort Bend County, Texas. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest in connection to the incident that occurred in June.

Emilio Cruz Jr., 33, was apprehended on Tuesday and charged with failure to stop and render aid in relation to the death of Enrique Godinez. The victim’s family had reported him missing to the Rosenberg Police Department on May 28 after he disappeared on May 19.

The tragic discovery was made on June 11 at approximately 1:13 p.m. in the 6900 block of FM 361 near Pine Meadow Lane in Needville. Deputies found debris from a vehicle and a damaged bicycle at the scene.

Godinez’s body was subsequently transported to the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination. Investigators also revealed that a Lamar CISD police officer had reported an accident in the area on May 24, leading to Cruz being identified as a person of interest in the case.

Following his arrest, Cruz was taken to the Fort Bend County Jail, where his bail was set at $100,000. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Godinez’s death continues as authorities work to uncover more details.
