A man was taken into custody in San Francisco on Monday following accusations that he shoved a 74-year-old woman in front of a commuter train, resulting in her tragic death.
The distressing incident took place at the Powell Street Station at approximately 11:05 p.m. local time, as reported by the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police on Tuesday.
Tragically, the elderly woman was forcefully pushed as the BART train approached, causing her to strike her head on the train before collapsing on the platform.
Emergency services swiftly transported the victim, identified as Corazon Dandan of San Mateo County, to San Francisco General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Arrest and Charges
Shortly after the appalling incident, law enforcement apprehended 49-year-old Trevor Belmont, also known as Hoak Taing, on the station platform. Described as a transient individual, Belmont has a history of criminal offences, according to CBS Bay Area.
Belmont faces charges of murder and elder abuse, and is currently being detained without the option of bail.
Investigation and Motive
Authorities are diligently analysing surveillance footage and conducting enquiries to ascertain a possible motive for the unprovoked attack. It remains unclear whether the suspect had any prior association with the victim.
The tragic death marks the first homicide incident reported on the BART system in 2024.
