The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Campbellsburg Post, Post 5, is currently investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 50-year-old male in Carroll County, Kentucky. The incident took place at a gun store located at 1496 Whites Run Rd, Carrollton, on Saturday, June 29th. Post 5 detectives responded to the scene to commence the investigation.
Post 5 authorities were alerted to the shooting by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday evening around 8:30 p.m. Upon arrival at the scene, they found the victim inside the store receiving emergency medical treatment for a gunshot wound.
The initial findings suggest that the victim, identified as Chad Wainscott from Worthville, KY, was struck by a single round when a customer in the store was handling a firearm for sale. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by other patrons present, the victim succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.
The individual responsible for the firearm at the time of the incident is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation led by Post 5 detectives. Witness statements and collected evidence have not indicated any foul play at this stage. As a result, no charges are currently pending, and the investigation continues to gather more information.
