SALISBURY — A 28-year-old man, identified as Catalin Serban, has been apprehended by law enforcement authorities after allegedly making a bomb threat to Novant Rowan Regional Hospital in Salisbury. The incident led to the deployment of the Cabarrus County bomb squad to the hospital premises.

The Salisbury Police Department received a distress call from an ER staff member around 11 a.m. on Sunday, reporting a threatening phone call from an individual claiming to have placed a bomb in the emergency room. Major Justin Crews, the police department’s public information officer, stated that the suspect cited the death of his child three years ago in the same ER as the reason for his actions.

Upon locating Serban on the hospital grounds, authorities took him into custody. Subsequently, they discovered his van in the parking lot and alerted the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad to conduct a thorough search. Following an extensive inspection, no traces of explosives were found in the vehicle.

Serban has been charged with felony offences related to making a false report concerning a destructive device and has been remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center. Online jail records indicate that he has been denied bail.
