Tragedy struck in Sikwadhi trading Centre, Homa Bay County, as two women lost their lives in a horrific electrocution incident while carrying out a mundane household chore.

The victims, Roseline Akinyi Opiyo, aged 29, and Judith Achieng Ochiel, aged 28, met their untimely demise after inadvertently coming into contact with a live electric current.

Both women resided in a rental property where the landlord, in a gross violation of safety regulations, had allegedly carried out illegal electricity connections for the tenants.

According to Alphonse Odero, the assistant chief of Karading sub-location, the fatal incident occurred when the women were hanging freshly washed clothes on a line that unfortunately was in contact with a live electric wire.

Tragically, Roseline accidentally touched the metal wire and was fatally electrocuted, prompting Judith to rush to her aid, only to suffer the same fate in a devastating chain of events.

The Homa Bay County Police Commander, Hassan Barua, confirmed the incident, revealing that initial investigations pointed towards the landlord’s culpability in the illegal connections that led to the tragic deaths.

Barua assured that a comprehensive inquiry into the matter is underway to ascertain the full extent of negligence and misconduct that led to this heart-wrenching incident.
