A 24-year-old man, identified as Vasu Kumar, met with a fatal accident on Saturday evening in Ludhiana when a speeding truck collided with the scooter he was riding pillion on near Lajpat Nagar of Jodhewal. The victim tragically lost his life on the spot, while his friend, who was driving the scooter, narrowly escaped the mishap.

Details of the Accident

According to eyewitnesses, the speeding truck hit the scooter, causing both Vasu and his friend to fall on the road. Tragically, the truck ran over Vasu, leading to his untimely demise. The driver of the truck initially attempted to flee the scene but was eventually stopped by onlookers. However, he managed to escape by blending into the crowd, leaving behind his truck with the registration number PB-13-BL-2713.

Following the incident, the Jodhewal police registered an FIR based on the statement provided by Vasu’s father, Manoj Kumar. The police have invoked sections 279 (Rash driving) and 304 A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against the absconding truck driver, identified as Gurjant Singh. The authorities have seized the truck and are actively trying to locate its owner and driver.

Another Tragic Collision on Ludhiana-Chandigarh Highway

In a separate incident on Sunday morning, a high-end bike rider named Vivek Chauhan and a 50-year-old woman named Parminder Kaur lost their lives in a collision between two two-wheelers near Kotla Shamspur village on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh national highway. Parminder’s son, Sanpreet Singh, who was also on the scooter, sustained injuries in the accident.

Account of the Incident

According to Parminder Singh, the husband of the deceased woman, his wife and son were en route to Nagra village on an Activa scooter. As they turned towards Samrala from Kotla Shamspur on the national highway, a biker approaching from the Samrala side at high speed collided with their vehicle, resulting in the tragic outcome. The complainant attributed the accident to the recklessness of the motorcyclist.

Police Action and Charges

The DSP of Samrala, Tarlochan Singh, disclosed that the biker was part of a group, and the other members fled the scene after the collision. The authorities have booked the deceased biker under sections 279, 304A, 337, and 427 of the IPC for rash driving, causing death due to negligence, causing hurt, and mischief causing damage, respectively.
