Humberside Police have identified over 160 families linked to human ashes discovered at a funeral home in Hull, according to recent reports.

A 46-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of prevention of a lawful and decent burial, fraud by false representation, and fraud by abuse of position in relation to the case.

Humberside Police stated in a release, “As a result of our investigations, 163 families have now been identified, and our officers have been reaching out to them to provide updates and discuss the available options.”

Assistant Chief Constable Thom Mcloughlin, leading the inquiry, informed The Guardian, “Over the past two weeks, my team has been in touch with the families associated with the investigation.

“This has been to update them on the recovered ashes and to arrange personal meetings to offer further assistance and explain in detail the procedures and options they have.

“We have delayed this public update until initial contact was made, as the families are our top priority, and the information is private and personal to them.”
