The Halton Police have successfully detained a male suspect believed to be responsible for assaulting a teenager in the town of Milton.

On the afternoon of May 31, 2024, at around 3:40 p.m., a male individual was observed walking along a pathway near the intersection of Child’s Drive and Ledwith Drive in Milton. It was during this time that the suspect targeted a 15-year-old female who was out walking her dog.

According to reports, the male suspect initiated a conversation with the teenager before proceeding to forcibly kiss and grope her against her will on multiple occasions.

Following a thorough investigation into the incident, on June 23, 2024, law enforcement officials were able to identify and apprehend the alleged perpetrator, Sleim Basta, a 70-year-old resident of Milton. Basta has since been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, and an invitation to sexual touching, and is currently being detained pending a scheduled bail hearing.

Authorities have reason to believe that there may be other individuals who have fallen victim to similar acts perpetrated by the accused individual. As a precautionary measure, a photograph of Sleim Basta has been included with this official press release.
