Accident – Death – Obituary News : Authorities in Utica, New York, have released body camera footage of a police officer fatally shooting a 13-year-old boy, Nyah Mway, after he allegedly aimed a pellet gun during a foot chase. The incident occurred on Friday night in a residential area as police officers were conducting a pedestrian stop of two individuals.

Police Chief Mark Williams stated that Nyah fled from the officers and displayed what appeared to be a handgun during the chase. An officer fired one shot, injuring Nyah, who later succumbed to his injuries at Wynn Hospital. It was later determined that the object Nyah was holding was a replica GLOCK 17 pellet gun.

The Utica Police Department released body camera footage on their YouTube channel, depicting the moments leading up to the shooting. The footage showed officers approaching Nyah and another juvenile, with Patterson and Husnay running after Nyah as he attempted to flee. Patterson apprehended Nyah, who was shot by Husnay while on the ground.

Following the incident, the community in Utica, particularly the Karen immigrant community, expressed outrage and demanded justice for Nyah. A candlelight vigil was held in his memory, with hundreds of people attending to mourn his loss.

The three officers involved in the shooting, Patrick Husnay, Bryce Patterson, and Andrew Citriniti, have been placed on paid administrative leave pending an investigation. The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation has also launched a probe into the incident, as mandated by state law.
