His devastated relatives and members of the immigrant community are demanding justice for Nyah and accountability for the police officers involved.
Lay Htoo, Nyah’s cousin, expressed the family’s hopes for a peaceful life in the United States after fleeing violence in Myanmar. The family is now mourning Nyah’s death and seeking answers.
As investigations into the shooting continue, Nyah’s family and the local Karen community, to which they belong, are scheduled to meet with Utica Mayor Michael P. Galime to discuss the incident.
