Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Ramsey County prosecutors have brought a felony charge against renowned Twin Cities-based chef Justin Sutherland, accusing him of threatening to shoot his girlfriend. The 39-year-old chef appeared in Ramsey County District Court on Monday to face a single count of threats of violence following his arrest in St. Paul on Friday night.

According to court documents, Sutherland is alleged to have choked his girlfriend, smashed her phone, and pointed a gun at her. However, John Daly, Sutherland’s attorney, has vehemently denied these accusations, stating that the criminal complaint is “riddled with false truths.” Daly insists that his client never choked the woman or pointed a gun at her.

Despite the serious charges, Sutherland was released without bail and ordered to surrender his firearms pending his next court appearance, scheduled for next month.

Details of the Alleged Incident

The incident that led to Sutherland’s arrest unfolded on Friday night at an address on Front Avenue in St. Paul. Multiple 911 calls were made by individuals concerned for the safety of Sutherland’s girlfriend. One passerby reported seeing a man with a gun and a distressed woman with her hands up.

Another caller, identified as the woman’s sister, reported overhearing Sutherland threatening to kill his girlfriend over the phone before abruptly ending the call. The girlfriend later recounted to the police that Sutherland had pointed a gun at her, threatened to shoot her, and had been verbally abusive and violent towards her in the past.

During the police investigation, officers discovered 10 firearms in Sutherland’s home, including two placed on a case on top of a bed. Additionally, the woman’s broken phone was found at the scene.

Justin Sutherland’s Background and Career

Justin Sutherland is a well-known chef in the Twin Cities culinary scene, having appeared on popular TV shows such as “Top Chef” and “Iron Chef America.” He currently co-hosts the show “Fast Foodies” and has won an Emmy for hosting “Taste the Culture.”

Recently, Sutherland announced plans to open two new restaurants in Minneapolis’ Mill District this fall. He also partnered with the Rondo Community Land Trust to develop a new concept for Golden Thyme Coffee and Cafe in St. Paul’s Rondo neighborhood.

Despite the serious allegations against him, Sutherland has had only one past conviction for a DWI charge over 15 years ago. The judge overseeing his case noted his compliance with past court appearances.
