The Peoria County Coroner has confirmed that a 39-year-old man from Manito, identified as Jacob Smith, was the victim of a fatal crash on Sunday night. The incident occurred on the 10300 block of Manito Road in Manito.
Initially alert but confused, Smith was rushed to OSF in critical condition. Unfortunately, his condition rapidly deteriorated, and he was pronounced deceased at 11:53 p.m. The cause of death was determined to be multiple blunt-force head and chest trauma injuries, as well as severe internal hemorrhaging that proved to be unsurvivable.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has stated that toxicology reports are pending to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
First responders were called to the scene just after 8:30 p.m. to assist with the aftermath of the tragic accident.
