In a heartbreaking turn of events, four individuals, including a young boy and his two sisters, lost their lives in separate drowning incidents at Tarbela and Khanpur lakes in Haripur. The authorities have issued warnings against swimming and bathing in these areas, yet tragedy struck once again.
Family Outing Turns Tragic
A family from Alooli village had gathered at Tarbela Lake for a leisurely picnic on a hot summer day. Despite the ban on swimming, they decided to cool off in the waters. Tragedy struck when a minor boy and his two sisters accidentally slipped into the deep lake and were unable to resurface. The victims were identified as nine-year-old Faizan, 13-year-old Anees Fatima, and 12-year-old Liaba Bibi. Local divers rushed to the scene to retrieve their bodies, which were later taken to Haripur Trauma Centre.
Another Life Lost at Khanpur Canal
Adding to the sorrow, a man met a similar fate at Khanpur Canal. Despite warnings and precautions, the man drowned in the canal after his foot got entangled in underwater vegetation. The victim was identified as 31-year-old Tariq Mehmood, a resident of Khalabat Township. Rescue workers promptly retrieved his body and transferred it to Khanpur Hospital.
Escape from Police Custody
In a separate incident, a man accused of robbery managed to escape from police custody in Khanpur. Raja Ehtesham, a resident of Jabb village, had been apprehended for his involvement in two separate robberies. Despite being handcuffed, he managed to free himself and flee from the Pind Muneem police post. The escape occurred while officers were preoccupied with ensuring the security of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who was in the vicinity.
