LEXINGTON, UK (1st July 2024) —

St. Claire HealthCare, based in Morehead, has officially joined forces with the University of Kentucky, marking a significant milestone that will enhance clinical and academic programmes while providing greater access to top-notch patient care for residents across Kentucky.

President Eli Capilouto of the University of Kentucky expressed his enthusiasm for this partnership, stating, “At the University of Kentucky, we aspire to make a positive impact on communities throughout our Commonwealth by offering innovative solutions to persistent challenges. Today, with the integration of St. Claire HealthCare into our healthcare network, we are one step closer to fulfilling our commitment to providing exceptional care within the state boundaries.”

St. Claire HealthCare is a major employer in the Morehead region, boasting a workforce of over 1,300 employees, including 50 physicians and nearly 50 advanced practice professionals covering more than 20 medical specialties.

Donald H. Lloyd II, President and CEO of St. Claire HealthCare, expressed his optimism about the partnership, stating, “This collaboration is the culmination of years of dedicated effort aimed at delivering the highest quality care to our community. By joining forces with the University of Kentucky, we aim to enhance accessibility to top-tier medical services for our neighbours, leading to improved health outcomes in our region.”

Over the years, St. Claire HealthCare has collaborated with the University of Kentucky on various successful academic and clinical programmes, including the renowned Rural Physician Leadership Program. Additionally, St. Claire serves as a training and residency site for UK’s Colleges of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences.

Approval and Partnership

The acquisition of St. Claire HealthCare by the University of Kentucky was approved by the UK Board of Trustees on April 26. Following thorough evaluation and deliberation, UK was selected as the preferred partner by the St. Claire Board of Directors and the Sisters of Notre Dame, who have been instrumental in the healthcare organisation’s stewardship.

St. Claire HealthCare encompasses a hospital with 139 licensed beds, seven primary care locations spread across five counties, a multi-specialty medical pavilion, urgent care centres, a pediatrics clinic, a retail pharmacy, counselling services, medical equipment stores, and hospice services in eight counties.

Future Initiatives

With the integration of St. Claire HealthCare into the University of Kentucky’s healthcare network, both institutions are poised to drive transformative changes in healthcare delivery and workforce development in northeastern Kentucky. This partnership signifies a commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility and quality for all Kentuckians.
