A man from Kalispell is now in police custody after a high-speed pursuit in the Evergreen area on Saturday night. The incident unfolded around 11:30 p.m. when deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over a vehicle that was driving without any lights on along U.S. Highway 2 near River Road.

Sheriff Brian Heino revealed in a press statement that the driver, identified as 34-year-old Derek Bruce Bigman, refused to stop and instead accelerated erratically. Bigman’s reckless driving included mounting sidewalks, narrowly avoiding parked cars, and driving against traffic flow while disregarding traffic signals.

Concerned about the safety of the public, deputies executed a precision immobilization technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, to bring the pursuit to an end on Kelley Road in Kalispell. Following the manoeuvre, Bigman attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after being subdued with a taser.

Bigman is currently detained at the Kalispell jail on multiple charges, including felony criminal endangerment, possession of dangerous drugs, and breaching probation. The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
