Portland Man Arrested on Multiple Charges After Alleged Bomb Threat

A Portland resident, identified as 39-year-old Daryl Walsh, was apprehended by authorities on Saturday following reports of potential threats involving the construction of a bomb and intimidation towards a former domestic partner.

Portland police, along with the Maine State Police tactical team, executed a high-risk search warrant at Walsh’s residence on Runnells Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. The operation involved the deployment of specialized units including the Special Reaction Team, Crisis Negotiators, and Hazardous Device Unit.

Earlier on the same day, law enforcement received information indicating that Walsh had allegedly made threats directed at a former domestic partner and a member of the judiciary. The tip also suggested that Walsh was armed and in the process of assembling an explosive device.

During the search, authorities uncovered evidence that appeared to corroborate the initial concerns. Crisis negotiators were able to establish communication with Walsh, ultimately persuading him to vacate the premises peacefully. Subsequently, Walsh was arrested and charged with several offences, including terrorizing, criminal use of explosives, and violation of a protection order. He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail.

In a statement released by the Portland Police Department, officials expressed gratitude towards the individual who reported the potential threat, emphasizing the importance of proactive intervention in preventing potential tragedies.
