COLLIN COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – The Collin County Sheriff’s Office has revealed that a minor has been identified as the suspect behind a series of swatting incidents and bomb threats in various Texas cities, including Tyler, as well as in nine other states.

Although the sheriff’s office did not disclose the juvenile’s age or location, they did confirm that a search warrant was executed in Smith County on Saturday. It was discovered that over 100 locations had been targeted by the suspect’s dangerous hoaxes.

The official statement released by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office detailed the collaborative effort that led to the identification of the suspect:

“In a joint investigation involving the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a search warrant was carried out in Smith County on Saturday, June 29. This operation successfully uncovered a juvenile suspect responsible for numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents across multiple states.”

“The investigation was initiated in May following a swatting incident at a residence in St. Paul, Texas. Through the dedicated efforts of the collaborating agencies and the execution of multiple search warrants, the juvenile suspect was identified, with charges pending. The suspect has been linked to bomb threats at Brookshire’s grocery stores, schools in the Tyler area, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, and Mission ISD.”

“The investigation is ongoing, but it has been revealed that the suspect’s activities extended across Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Over 100 locations have been identified as targets of these dangerous hoaxes.”

“Despite using sophisticated methods to remain hidden, the suspect’s identity was eventually uncovered through persistent online investigative work.”

“Swatting and bomb threats present significant dangers, and law enforcement has observed a rise in these incidents in recent years. These malicious hoaxes cause panic, put lives at risk, and divert essential resources from emergency services.”

Collin County Sheriff Jim Skinner emphasised the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing such serious threats and ensuring public safety:

“This successful operation highlights the significance of collaborative efforts in tackling threats to public safety. Swatting incidents and bomb threats are serious offences that can jeopardise innocent lives. We are committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these dangerous activities.”
