Two individuals have been taken into custody this month on serious drug charges after a routine traffic stop in May led to the alleged discovery of fentanyl, methamphetamine paraphernalia, and items linked to the distribution of illegal drugs.

Arrest and Seizure of Illegal Substances

Last month, 32-year-old Havasu resident Casey Jones, who had an outstanding warrant from Lake Havasu Municipal Court for failure to comply with a court order, was spotted in the front passenger seat of a white Ford Explorer. This vehicle was observed pulling into the rear of an address on the 200 block of South Lake Havasu Avenue, where responding officers found Jones and another occupant, identified as 40-year-old Corey McGahen.

As officers approached the vehicle, they reportedly witnessed McGahen moving from the front to the back seat. Upon asking Jones to step out of the vehicle, a straw with a burnt end – typically associated with methamphetamine use – was said to have fallen to the ground beside his door.

Jones was promptly arrested, and a subsequent search led to the discovery of a piece of aluminum foil in his pocket, as well as burnt aluminum foil containing fentanyl pills beneath the front passenger seat. Additionally, a homemade pipe with methamphetamine residue, cash, and drug paraphernalia were found in the vehicle.

Further search of the vehicle’s trunk revealed approximately 17.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, along with several small baggies and a keychain with the name “Corey” on it. McGahen was found to be in possession of around $430 in cash at the time of arrest.

Legal Proceedings and Outcome

Both individuals were taken to the Lake Havasu City Police Department and booked on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Jones faced an additional felony count for possession of narcotic drugs, while McGahen was charged with possession of narcotic drugs with intent to sell.

While Mohave County prosecutors decided not to pursue charges against McGahen in Mohave Superior Court, a new case was initiated in Lake Havasu City Justice Court. Jones, on the other hand, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia in Lake Havasu City Justice Court. The possession of narcotics charge was dismissed, and Jones was sentenced to incarceration and court-ordered substance abuse counseling.

As of the latest update, both men remain in custody at the Mohave County Jail.
