An Alabama man has been identified as the homicide victim shot outside a Mississippi bar over the weekend. The victim, 24-year-old Brandon Michael Cartwright, was described by his family as a father and an “amazing young man stolen from us.”
The tragic incident took place in the parking lot of the High Noon Lounge and Karaoke in Waynesboro, Mississippi, where Cartwright was shot around 2 a.m. on Saturday. He succumbed to his injuries at Wayne General Hospital, according to the Wayne County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities are currently seeking a suspect, 24-year-old Jaylen Keonta Mayfield, on a murder warrant in connection with Cartwright’s death. Mayfield is believed to have fled in a tan SUV, which was later found abandoned in Waynesboro, as reported by the Wayne County News.
In the wake of this tragedy, Cartwright’s family is devastated and making funeral arrangements. His mother, Teresa Cooper, has set up a GoFundMe page to cover the costs associated with his passing.
Reflecting on her loss, Cartwright’s wife, Crysta Anderson, expressed her deep sorrow, describing his death as “traumatizing.” She shared her heartbreak on social media, lamenting the void left by his absence.
Anderson’s emotional post read, “I love you my baby. I just wish I could have you back and this nightmare was over. I feel so lost and confused. You were my world. It feels like everything is impossible without you here with me and our babies.”
She continued, “I lost my husband, my forever, my best friend. I would never wish this on my worst enemy because this is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. I never thought at 22 years old I would have to put my husband to rest and plan his funeral. It’s just the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do.”
Teresa Cooper, Cartwright’s mother, expressed her grief and shared fond memories of her son. She vowed to seek justice for him, ensuring that his memory is honoured.
In a heartfelt tribute, Cooper reminisced, “I’m gonna miss all those random visits all those random things you always do. I’m gonna miss the way you laugh your scent and so much more. Gonna miss all those crazy things you always got into.”
